Kizomba music and dance originated in Angola, Africa in the 1970's. Compared to Salsa and Bachata, Kizomba is a very new partner dance genre, with its roots in Semba and other Angolan traditional dances. Over the years it has been infused with elements of Cuban Son, Caribbean Zouk and other partner dances from the other PALOPS countries Cape Verde, Guinea-Bissau, Sao-Tome and Principe, and Mozambique. Baza's Kizomba classes go beyond teaching students how to dance Angolan Kizomba, but also place an emphasis on learning about Kizomba music and rhythms and building an understanding of its rich and diverse cultural roots and influences.
